Lily Pad Pond

I photographed this water garden last week on a real estate showing. Unfortunately, I didn't see or hear any bullfrogs. The house had a screened-in porch and I'm sure the owners enjoyed sitting out there listening to them croak on hot summer nights. my iPhone photo
I can't even tell you how weary I am of researching products for my upcoming house painting project. I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a good waterborne stain. I think I'm just going to have my clapboards and shingles and trim painted white. Sherwin Williams is having an end-of-summer sale with 30% off thru September 2nd. I am just going to bite the bullet and paint everything with their thick white paint that goes on like buttermilk. It's called Duration. Case closed, fingers in ears, la la la la la. Can't hear you.

Future Gnome Home under Large Mushroom

We had some hard rain yesterday and last night. It has stopped now and it's just hot and muggy. I snapped this large mushroom this morning on an after-breakfast walk out back with the wonder dog. I added the fake rain just for fun.

Museum of Early Trades and Crafts, Madison NJ

I took these photos of this landmark building from my car with my iPhone on my way to Costco today.

Museum of Early Trades and Crafts ~ Madison NJ
The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts originally opened its doors as a library in 1900. The library is still housed upstairs in this beautifully restored building that features 56 stained glass windows, 8 chandeliers, 3 fireplaces and stenciled brick walls. Learn about New Jersey history and culture by visiting the museum on your own, or arrange for a guided tour conducted by the museum's friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Blue Chicory and Hot Sun

I have a whole field of these blue chicory weeds. The blooms close up and go to sleep at the end of the day and all you see is stalks. Today is supposed to be the hottest day of our heat wave so we will get in our longer walks early. Stay cool.

Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly on Red Clover

Click photo to enlarge.

I had a super busy day running around taking care of business. Webster has recovered completely and he's now taking walks to the way back with me. I am so happy. We saw this butterfly feeding on red clover on a stroll in the late afternoon. It's still very hot but somehow it doesn't seem quite so smothery, if you know what I mean.

A Daylily and A Cotswold Cottage

On my last walk with Webster yesterday I ventured into a very thick weed patch on the edge of the woods to photograph this daylily with my iPhone. I was wearing my wellies so I'm not worried about getting poison ivy.

I had a real estate closing yesterday so my July is getting off to a great start. Hope yours is too.

You can only imagine how thrilled I was to have found and sealed the deal on a wonderful Cotswold Cottage. Who knew there was an authentic piece of England so close to my own cottage and no passport was required? My buyers are thrilled.

Beautiful Oakleaf Hydrangea

I took this photo yesterday at my friend Kelly's house. Her oakleaf hydrangeas have really taken off this year and they are beautiful. I learned through some internet research that this variety and the Annabelle are the only two varieties that are native to the US. I love planting shrubs that are natives, don't you? I want to plant several of each and the Annabelle will be in honor of my mother Anna.

Hello Summer 2013

We are still having cool nights and I'm sitting here wearing a chamois shirt because it's 58° and feels quite chilly. Tabitha is a good gauge of the temperature because she didn't want to stay outside. She positioned herself in the front yard where she could see me and started the stare-down until I let her back in. She is curled up in her cat basket now that she has successfully spoiled my endeavor to sleep until at least 7:00 every morning.
I took this photograph with my iPhone from my balcony one day recently after our long spell of rainy days. I added the rays by playing around with effects and I really have no idea what I did but I like it. Happy first day of summer - the longest day of the year. I'm already planning my afternoon nap but maybe my morning coffee will kick in soon and I'll feel more awake. See you later.

My Bathroom Window

I took this photo with my Nikon yesterday morning while the sun was shining on the top of the radiator and a gentle breeze was blowing behind the curtains. Hopefully the rain we have been having to make this the wettest June on record is behind us. I see bright sun for 5 consecutive days on my iPhone's weather app. Let's hope it's right because we really need to dry out!!!

Grueby Tile and A New Laundry Detergent

I should have cleaned off the two coffee stains before taking the picture. I put my coffee cup on this tile every morning. It's a big one 6" square stamped Grueby Boston. We had a surprise downpour yesterday and I had clothes drying outside on a big expanding rack and just barely got them inside before they were soaked. I slept on freshly laundered linens last night and they smelled like lemons thanks to the new detergent I'm using. It's overcast again today so the same thing will probably happen. Then we are supposed to have 4 straight days of sun, sun, and more sun. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm off to do errands now.

This is the aforementioned detergent I picked up on a whim at the grocery store because it was on sale. It says the scent is Clean Burst but believe me when I say the clothes smell like lemons whether you dry them outside or in the dryer. I'll never buy anything else. I am thrilled I finally found something I like. Watch, it will be discontinued shortly. I must stock up, just in case.

Cast Iron Frog in My Garden

I took this photo early one morning last week. Ribbit. He's a big old one and I love him. I got up before the cat for some reason this morning and decided to start watching PBS Masterpiece recorded from Sunday night. I love Inspector Lewis Mysteries and this episode is the  beginning of Season VI. Here is a review from Forbes Magazine. See you later.

My Mother and Baby Me

I've been working downstairs all week for the first time since losing my mother in December. Up until now, I have only been going down there to do laundry. After I washed all the windows and screens and doors on the outside of the lower level, I decided it was time to go inside to start putting things in order. I still have a lot to do but the kitchen, living room and laundry room are looking pretty nice. I found this old photo in a drawer and took a quick picture of it through the glass with my phone. My mother looks so happy and proud of me and I'm trying to tell the photographer how to take the picture using mental telepathy since I didn't know how to talk. I'm sure she made her dress and probably mine too. One of my grandmothers probably did the needlework trim. My mother saved and saved to buy a sewing machine during those war years when everything was so hard to get. It was a Singer, of course.

Finally, We See the Sun

We still have some dark clouds for the sun to hide behind, but when it comes out it is a glorious sight to behold after two days of torrential rain. More is on the way and the weather people say this year's month of June is on its way to becoming the wettest one in history. April was the second driest in history. There is no such thing as predicting the weather nowadays, is there?
Tabitha is catching up on eating the special tough grass she loves. Have a great weekend. my iPhone photos

Raindrops on my window

It is getting brighter outside and the rain has subsided somewhat. Maybe the two solid days of rain that have been predicted will blow over and the forecast will change. Or maybe it won't. We are all having a lazy day so far at the cottage. Tabitha is curled up in a tight ball on my unmade bed and Webster is stretched out at my feet. I haven't done anything productive yet except run around closing windows. I think I should try to do something meaningful soon. my iPhone photo

Peony Update

Since my peonies opened several days ago, there has been quite an explosion. Thankfully, we haven't had any rain to destroy them. They are a delight, aren't they? How does your garden grow? my iPhone photos

Red Clover at My Cottage

This red clover in my field looks very much like rose colored chive blossoms. I'll see you tomorrow. Have a good evening with sweet dreams.
